I’ve gone by ‘if the green house flies are around, so is poop or something dead’ my whole life and left it at that. When my kid asked me why it was green, I knew we would have to find out what they are all about. Also, how’s it eating a dead fish?

It was meat with fly eggs on it. (females lay their eggs in flesh and meat which then provides sustenance for them when they hatch.
DID YOU KNOW? Flies spit enzymes onto their food (like carrion for example, which is rotting animal flesh) and use their spongy mouth parts to slurp it up.
