Bright blue flying stick bugs. Growing up, I just knew they weren’t dragonflies. But what are they? Odonata, my friends, Odonata. Why did I find out? I took a picture of one while out with the kids. They called it a dragonfly. I knew it wasn’t.
[vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1500140842540{background-color: #cff9f7 !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]DID YOU KNOW? Odonata is an order of carnivourus insects including dragonflies and damselflies that have been here since the Triassic Time Period? That’s right. That predates Mrs Pteranodon from Dinosaur Train by like 200 million years, give or take.
INTERESTING FACT:They don’t walk! They only fly around and land. They use their legs for grabbing prey or something to stand on/ hold on to.

Dragonfly or Damselfly?
How They Fly
Damselflies eat soft bodied insects like mosquitoes and aphids. They will also fly in and grab a spider right off its web. While dragon flies catch a lot of their prey mid-air, damselflies tend to sit and wait for their lunch to come to them.
Versus comes from Latin ‘turned towards or against’. Etymology is the study of the history of words.
